I am primarily interested in language production, asking what determines our choice of words and sentence structures during everyday language use. In my dissertation work, I investigated how speakers plan their utterances before they are certain of the message they would like to convey. My goal in future work is to explore how strategies for planning under message uncertainty vary across speakers, languages, and conversational contexts. I am also interested in the relationship between language and other cognitive domains, most recently exploring planning parallels in the production of linguistic utterances and non-linguistic motor actions.
